The residents of Malava constituency in Kakamega North Sub- County have a reason to smile and celebrate after they benefited from borehole projects.
The projects were sponsored and constructed by Zakat Foundation of America (ZFA) in partnership with the Bungoma based Islamic Youth Community Organization(IYCO)saw the drilling of boreholes and installation of hand pumps in various villages and institutions within Malava Kabras.
Among areas that benefited from the projects include Bulupi area in West Kabras location and Shamoni area situated in South Kabras location.Also the projects saw a number of mosques and Muslim sponsored institutions in the constituency benefit where boreholes are set to be sunk.
Speaking at the official launch of the projects ZFA East Africa Representative Muhammad Wangusi said the projects are aimed at providing safe water to all members of the local communities irrespective of their religious affiliations as a mean to serve humanity and cater for their needs for social economic development.
He further pointed out that projects was also aimed to foster mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence between Muslims and members of other faiths for harmony and prosperity.
Wangusi noted that the projects will improve on food production and security among the local communities and called on them utilize the borehole effectively through taking good care of them to prevent vandalization.
He said the projects will be expanded to benefit more communities in Matete, Lugari and Likuyani constituencies respectively.
On his part Western region Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) Chairman Sheikh Abdi Wafula Swaleh appreciated the Zakat Foundation of America for its projects pointing out that they will contribute to better the livelihood of the local communities and enhance on social economic development in the society.
