Wajir MPs skip Jamhuri day celebrations as rivalry with Governor escalates

By NJ Correspondent:

Governor Abdullahi shares a point with Wajir East MP Abass Sheikh during this year’s Jamhuri day celebrations

The MPs that broke ranks with Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi skipped today’s Jamhuri day celebrations in the County.

Senator Abdirahman Hassan, MPs Adan Keynan (Eldas) and Mohamed Elmi (Tarbaj) did not show up at the National event months after walking out on the Governor during Mashujaa day celebrations in October 2016 as he rose to read his speech.

Only Wajir East MP Abass Sheikh and Woman Representative Fatuma Ibrahim attended the celebrations at Wajir Stadium.

Governor Abdullahi recently scored against the trio after projects he proposed during the equalisation fund public participation forum were adopted by the public who rejected a proposal by the rival MPs led by Adan Keynan.

Mr Keynan had presented a proposal signed by all Wajir MPs that would have seen the funds used for road upgrade and establishment of dams.

Differences between the two sides has of late played out in public with supporters of both sides trading accusations during the public forum.

Most speakers however threw their weight behind the embattled governor.
