Wajir Governor feted for improving Water provision in County

Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi received a trophy from Deputy President William Ruto. Abdullahi was feted for allocating largest County budget to the water sector.

Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi receives a trophy from Deputy President William Ruto at a ceremony held in Nairobi on Thursday, November 24, 2016. He was feted for improving water access in his county. Wajir is the devolved unit with the highest budgetary allocation to the Water Sector.

Wajir County’s efforts to ensure every household has access to fresh water was today recognized at the annual water week held in Nairobi.

During the colorful ceremony, Governor Ahmed Abdullahi was awarded and named water ambassador in recognition of his County being the devolved unit with the highest Water Sector budgetary allocation.

“Our efforts to improve water services to the people of Wajir will continue” said Abdullahi after receiving the award at the event organized by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation in collaboration with Water Service Trust fund.

Deputy President William Ruto who presided over the function heaped praise on Governor Abdullahi pledged more National government support to the important water sector.

The County Government of Wajir has drilled more than 130 boreholes throughout the County since the advent of devolution surpassing the number that was in place since indepence.
