Wajir County has emerged the overall winners in this years’ racing competitions for the disabled people held in Isiolo county.
The race dubbed Desert Wheel Race for Persons with Disability brings together disabled people from Northern Kenya and is organized by the Northern Nomadic Disabled Persons Organization (NONDO).
The Wajir team was led by Mr. Mowlid Ibrahim and the County was announced best in Co-ordination and participation in the race and looking into issues of people with disability.
Over 70 competitors, five from each of the seven Northern Kenya Counties of Turkana, Marsabit, Moyale, Mandera, Garissa and Wajir took part in the competition with the remainder coming from the host County.
Several leaders from Wajir County were at hand to support the team. They included Secretary for Youth and Sports Halima Ali, Finance CEC Mr. Salah Adan and County Assembly Clerk Mr. Osman Mame.
Elsewhere in Isiolo, Police on Friday morning arrested eight suspected robbers and recovered electronics worth thousands of shillings believed to be stolen in Bula-Pesa area.
Confirming the incident, Isiolo OCPD Daniel Kamanza says officers nabbed the eight male suspects following a tip off from a bar owner they had robbed on Tuesday and raided them at three different houses used as hideouts in Bula-Pesa.
Kamanza says the thugs robbed the bar at 3am on Tuesday and stole a TV set, a DVD player and other items and in the process attacked and seriously injured a guard, who died while receiving treatment at Isiolo District Hospital.
During the ambush, police recovered 4 TV sets, 5 DVD players and gas cylinders among other items.
The eight will be arraigned in court soon.
