Tension is high in Eldas Town of Wajir County after gunmen ambushed a pickup truck killing three occupants and injuring five others on Wednesday morning.
What triggered the attack was not immediately clear but residents who talked to Nepjournal on condition of anonymity cited what appears to be renewed clan clashes.
The attack triggered tension in the area with additional reports indicating exodus of herders from the area for fear of retaliatory attacks.
Inter-clan clashes is common in the region and has left many dead in the recent past.
Victims of the latest attack were reportedly on a search mission for missing animals.
Mid this year, clan clashes related to boarder disputes and conflict over watering points led to the killing of several people, destruction of properties and displacement of many others.
Temperatures cooled after intense efforts by local leaders brought the warring sides to the negotiation table.
