Two AP officers and one education officer were killed and nine others injured after alleged Pokot bandits attacked a vehicle ferrying exams at Lomelo in Kapedo, Turkana County.
“The car was returning KCSE examination papers from Kapedo during the Tuesday attack at Kasarani region,” Inspector John Wabwire of Kapedo AP camp said. A statement on the incident said an officer is still missing, he was in the car which was attacked before other APs responded to their distress call.
Ibrahim Sheikh, the Turkana East sub-county director of education, was also injured in the raid. Amos Maina, who was driving the car, was shot on the abdomen but managed to reach Lomelo AP camp. Those who were injured are getting treatment at Lomelo dispensary.
“Inspector Sammy Kamwara was badly hurt on the face,” the statement released on Wednesday said.
Moses Nyowino, Kevin Muiru, Patrick Cheburet, Japheth Bosongo, James Mwangi, Benson Mbungua, George Omune, and Kennedy Tirop sustained minor injuries.
“They were injured on numerous body parts but are in steady condition,” the police said. Area AP camp inspector John Wabwire also said they are investigating the whereabouts of the missing officer.
