Police in Wajir are holding a suspect they arrested after a group of three men armed with pistols engaged them in an early morning shoot-out near the County government’s headquarters along military road.

The suspects had been trailed by police officers and were cornered in a residential house near the governor’s office. Two managed to flee while the third one who was not armed was arrested.

“3 suspicious men approached Governor’s  office  and were ordered to stop. They defied & ran off. Police gave chase and arrested 1” tweeted Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet.

Speaking to Nepjournal on phone, a County officer who spoke on condition of anonymity said that the gunshots sent confusion at the county headquarters and neighboring offices.

“We were in the office going about our normal duties when we heard the gunshots from outside. Police officers guarding our offices helped arrest the suspect as he ran towards the military camp just past WFP’s offices” he added.

The gunmen are believed to have been targeting a residential compound housing none-residents but no casualties were reported.

Following the Garissa University attack, many Kenyans were left in fear given the gruesome manner in which it was carried out.
