Somalia’s ambassador to Kenya Mr. Mohamed Ali Nur Americo’s reign at the Nairobi embassy has come to an end after more than 7 years of brilliant service.

The announcement was first confirmed in yesterday’s routine cabinet meeting by the Somali cabinet held in Mogadishu where Mr. Gamal Hassan was appointed to the office.

Mr. Americo welcomed the appointment of Mr. Hassan in his place but did not give further information on where he was heading next.

“I welcome yesterday’s appointment by the Somali Cabinet of my friend Amb. Gamal Hassan who will now be the new Somali ambassador to Kenya. I congratulated Amb. Gamal yesterday. I thank the entire staff and diplomats at the Somali embassy in Nairobi for their selfless services to Somalis in Kenya. I also thank Somali businessmen for the way they helped Somali refugees” Said amb. Americo in a post on his Facebook page early today.

Amb. Americo’s tour of duty began on October 19, 2007 when the then Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki received his credentials at State House, Nairobi.

He will be remembered for spearheading the International campaign for appeal for assistance to Somalis when the country was hit by its worst famine and droughts between 2010 and 2012.

Americo also stood tall and played an active role when Kenya launched an operation to flush out illegal immigrants that saw hundreds of Somalis returned to Mogadishu in 2014.

We wishes him all the best in his future endeavors.
