Hours after NASA leader Raila Odinga walked into an Airtel Shop and migrated from Safaricom Network to Airtel, Siaya residents responded positively to the move and thronged in large numbers in Airtel shops in towns. They said they have followed the suit after their leader Raila Odinga rallied them to boycott Safaricom products and services claiming the telecommunication firm influenced the outcome of presidential election.
Safaricom Kenya which is currently the titan telecommunication network with high number of subscribers has ever since denied claims of being involved in the election rigging and manipulation conspiracy citing it played its required role of providing network for transmission of results from polling stations to the nationally tallying and nothing else.
“We have seen our leader at the Airtel outlet that eventually means Airtel is the ‘Better option’ not Safaricom,” Onyango Fred said on Tuesday. Another resident hinted that it will be wise for Safaricom to suspend its services in NASA strong hold zones as it is inevitably they will incur losses.
“I want to assure them that if our routine demonstrations resumes, no Safaricom telecommunication boosters and Mpesa kiosks will be spared,” a resident who sought anonymity said. To the delight of Airtel agents, they were more than pleased to receive masses of Siaya Safaricom defectors to hope into the Smartphone network– Airtel firm.
