Security has been beefed up in Mandera County and Kenyan forces put on high alert following Friday’s brief Al Shabaab takeover of Borache town which borders Kenya’s Elwak town.

Speaking to the media, Mandera county Commissioner Fredrick Shisia denied overpowered Somali National Army crossed over to Kenya during the militant raid. He also confirmed that the terror group has not crossed into Kenyan side.

The administrator said security has been tightened along border areas like Borache, El ramu and Damasa.

Al Shabaab used military uniforms and equipment they stole from the Elade KDF camp during the attack.

SNA officials said the militants disguising themselves as Kenyan forces coupled with the timing of the attack which came on Friday when it was not an official working day made it easy for the militants to take over the town.
