Raila: State house blocked Kalonzo travel claims Nasa

NASA’s presidential hopeful and Opposition leader Raila Odinga is now claiming that State House has put travel restrictions on NASA principals. In a statement on Thursday, Raila said that there were attempts to block his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka from travelling to Uganda.

Mr Odinga said authorities at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi stopped Mr Kalonza of Wiper temporarily in a deliberate manner before allowing him travelling. Kalonzo was to preside over a graduation ceremony at Uganda Technology and Management University as Chancellor. He later on allowed to travel along with Moses Wetangula a fellow co-principal and a senator for Bungoma.

The authorities disclosed to Kalonzo that together with his team they require clearance from State House before leaving the country the NASA head put it. “these attempts show the rapid decrease of political situation and the rise of an effort to create an atmosphere of fear.” Raila said.”They point to a resurgence of the old order, with the Executive giving itself powers that do not exist anywhere in our laws.”

He condemned the infringement on freedoms and liberties and the harassment of his co-principals claiming the attempts to control their movement through State House clearances is an illegal way the suspicious government has gone too far. Raila pointed that Jubilee leaders would need no clearance from State House to travel abroad.

“The Kenyan Opposition must remain free as a legitimate part and parcel of the Kenyan political landscape… and be allowed and enabled to pursue its mandate as an alternative government and voice of the people in line with the constitution.”

The government spokesman Eric Kiraithe dismissed Raila’s claims when reached for comment saying State House did not interfere with Kalonzo’s travelling.
