PS Mariam El Maawy buried at Lang’ata Cemetery

Public Works Principal Secretary Mariam El-Maawy was on Saturday afternoon buried at Lang’ata Cemetery after the noon prayer.

Prayer was held at Masjid Nur Mosque in South C before  she was  laid to rest at Lang’ata Cemetery.

The body of the deceased was in South Africa and was transferred to Nairobi, it landed at JKIA Friday evening, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala and other government officials received her body. Her family said she spent two months in South Africa.

She was taken to South Africa two months ago  for further treatment following the Alshabaab militia attack. The militia group hijacked the car the PS was traveling with and shot her  on the shoulder and legs she was later  rescued by KDF forces, the other occupants in the car were all killed.

At the time of the attack the PS was in Lamu County, similar attacks have been rampant in the county with Alshabaab claiming responsibility.
