By NJ Correspondent:

Hundreds of traders in Garissa are counting their losses after unknown assailants torched the town’s ill-famed suq mugdi market on Thursday following announcement of the county’s gubernatorial contest, which saw Ali Bunow Korane clinch the seat.

Incumbent governor Nathif Jama of the Wiper party disputed the results in a press conference he held immediately after the announcement. The incumbent Women representative Shukran Gure who was equally trounced by Anab Subow of Jubilee flanked him.

Garissa was billed to be one of the hotly contested areas in the country’s just concluded elections.

Majority leader in the national assembly and Garissa township MP Aden Duale retained his seat after facing stiff completion from Wiper’s Farah Maalim.

Maalim is believed to have conceded defeat, although not publicly.
