President Uhuru Kenyatta’s plane was forced to return home after routing challenges over Yemen airspace which is currently a war zone.

“I left Nairobi last evening for Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, where I was to connect to a commercial flight to Los Angeles. Following reports of increased military activity in Yemen, there was a challenge on the routing leading to a decision to turn back. I touched ground at JKIA just before midnight” said the president in a post on his facebook page.

The President left Nairobi last evening on board his official Kenya Airforce aircraft destined for Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, where he was due to connect to a commercial flight to Los Angeles to attend the 2015 Milken Institute Global Conference.

A Saudi-led coalition has been conducting airstrikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen since March 26, after the Shiite Houthi rebels forced Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi to flee the country.
