A four – month pregnant woman fell off from a three storey building in which she lived in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area.

The woman was trying to hide from police who came calling in the wee hours of the night in the ongoing operation ‘uslama watch’.

She tried to hide behind the curtains and as she leaned on the window, she lost her balance and fell off.

Nadifo Abdi was taken to Nairobi East hospital in Eastleigh where she is now undergoing treatment.

Speaking to reporters from her hospital bed, she said that she had her alien card but feared arrest because she had no money to buy her freedom.

“They previously came on several occasions and I used to give them something, but this time I had no coin at home and so I decided to hide fearing arrest. I told the lady who was with me to open the door for them when I heard them say ‘fungua’ (open). As I tried to lean on the window, its weak panes came off making me fall on the ground.

Dr. Salat Garad of the hospital said that her condition is not bad although she is still undergoing medical checkups. “She sustained injuries in the back and there’s probability that her backbone is broken” he said, adding that more tests will be carried out to know the extent of damage she suffered.

The doctor says that her unborn child is safe so far.

A close relative Habiba Hassan Omar termed the incident unfortunate saying that they always wanted to return her back home but did not have the means.
