A police officer died on the spot and two of his colleagues sustained injuries after a vehicle they were traveling in rolled several times in Abdi Samad area location of Garissa County. A fourth officer escaped unhurt.
The officers were transporting ballot papers to Balambala sub-county ahead of tomorrow’s repeat Presidential elections.
The injured officers have been rushed to Garissa County Hospital where they are currently being treated while the body of their deceased officer identified as Fredrick Onyango was moved to the mortuary in the same hospital.
No other major anomalies have been reported from Garissa and other North Eastern Counties ahead of the opposition disputed elections.
North Eastern has largely voted in the ruling jubilee coalition in the August 2017 polls whose presidential results were annulled by the Supreme court after successful petition by opposition leader Raila Odinga and his co-principals.
The opposition NASA coalition has since withdrawn from the repeat polls.
With their ‘No reforms, No elections’ campaign gaining momentum, the opposition side lost a key battle today after the Supreme court failed to decide on another milestone case due to lack of quorum.
