The Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission(IEBC) has dropped lawyers Patrick Lumumba and Paul Mwite who represented Uhuru Kenyatta in the August 8 petition filed by Raila Odinga challenging President Kenyatta’s win declared by IEBC.
The electoral agency lost the petition filed by NASA leader Raila Odinga at the Supreme Court. This was after the apex court nullified president Kenyatta’s win on the grounds that August 8 election had gross irregularities and illegalities.
Sources within IEBC told reporters on Tuesday that the commission appointed eight lawyers who will represent it in the October 26 petitions. The new appointed lawyers are: Waweru Gatonye,(Senior counsel), Kamau Karori, Eric Gumbo, George Murugu, Wambua Kilonzo, Kimani Muhoro, Mahat Somane and Lucy Kambuni.
The Senior Counsel Gatonye graduated from the University of Nairobi in 1974 with a Bachelor of laws(L.L.B,Honors). He is an advocate having worked in the office of Attorney General and rose to become a deputy to the then Director of Public Prosecutions.
He is a member of the Law Society of Kenya,the National Advocates Disciplinary Committee, East Africa Law Society, International Commission of Jurists as well as the international Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
