Top elected leaders from Garissa, Wajir and Mandera Counties condemned Saturday morning’s attack on a passenger bus in Mandera calling it an act of cowardice by Al-Shabaab.
Speaking at a press conference they held immediately after the attacks yesterday, the leaders called on the government to act tough on the insurgents to avoid recurrence of the gruesome killings of innocent civilians.
Mandera Governor Ali Roba expressed his frustration at the Government’s failure to act on intelligence reports that indicated increased Al-Shabaab activities along the border which he said he shared with security agencies in Mandera two weeks ago.
On his part, Majority leader and Garissa Township MP Hon. Aden Duale called on Kenyans to remain calm and never fall for Al-Shabaab’s tactics of setting them against each other along religious lines.
“We must stand united against Al-shabaab and all terror gangs. Let us remain calm and allow our security agencies deal with the culprits of this criminal act that has no base in any religion” he said.
The leaders sent their condolences to the affected families and assured Christians in the region of their security.
