Nkaissery asks IEBC to review Northern region boundaries to end perennial clan feuds

Interior Cabinet Secretary Major Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Nkaissery has called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to start reviewing the internal boundaries of North Eastern region saying they were root causes of clan feuds in the region.

Speaking in a meeting with leaders from the region, the tough talking CS said resolutions of their meeting will be gazette and anyone found to go against the same will be dealt with accordingly.

Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi whose county is among the worst hit areas of the region blamed political boundaries for the clan clashes.

Dadaab and Balambala constituencies in Garissa and Wajir county’s Eldas and Wajir North have seen renewed clashes over constituency boundaries and resources with a local MP recently threatening to lead his people to Ethiopia should the State fails to protect them from bandits.

The leaders drawn from seven counties from the Northern region agreed to collaborate on matters security.
