The National Super Alliance leader Raila Odinga arrived in the country this morning in the midst of heavy presence of security personnel around the Jommo Kenyatta International Aiport (JKIA) to keep off NASA supporters from accessing the airport.
NASA had earlier indicated that it would hold a grand reception to welcome their leader who has been on a week long trip to the US where he addressed the congress about the October 26 poll that he pulled out from citing lack of election reforms.
NASA supporters engaged the police in running battles as they attempted to gain entry into the busy airport but their attempts were thwarted by anti-riot police who hurled tear gas canisters and water cannons at the purging crowd.
Motorists plying Mombasa Road were not left behind as the raging supporters pelted stones at them after being dispersed by the soldiers causing heavy traffic congestion.
The supporters took an early morning march despite the scorching sun and the police presence that could not deter them.
NASA had yesterday vowed to call on their supporters to come out in large numbers together with their top brass even after the arrest of Embakasi East Mp Paul Ongili popularly known as Babu Owino, his Ruaraka counterpart Tom Kajwang and former Starehe parliamentary aspirant Steve Mbogo who were arrested while heading to Kibra. The three were released later after being charged with riding without helmets.
The former premier lost the August elections to President Uhuru Kenyatta but successfully challenged at the Supreme court which ordered fresh elections that was later boycotted by NASA Presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka.
NASA also unveiled a resistant wing that called for boycott of certain products including services of giant telco Safaricom on claims they were jubilee sympathizers.
