One person was killed and another injured in Jabi Bar between Rhamu and Bambo west location of Mandera North Sub-County after an ambush on two branded campaign vehicles belonging to Mandera North MP aspirant Abdi Ali on Tuesday morning.

The deceased mother of four was identified as Barey Abdi Mohamed, a relative of the parliamentary candidate.

In a press statement, Ali said the attack was a political assassination attempt targeting his elder brother and Senior Chief of Ashabito location Jelle Ali.

“The incident has been reported to the police and to the county commissioner. We are asking the security team to investigate and get to the bottom of this until they bring the culprits to book. This was an attempt of political assassination” Ali’s statement reads in part.

The aspirant said he has been preaching peace throughout his campaign.

Meanwhile, security agencies are reported to have launched a man-hunt for the attackers.

The attacks comes a day after the aspirant who was running on a Narc-Kenya ticket dropped his bid for the Mandera North seat in favor of Rtd. Major Bashir Adullahi after family intervention in Nairobi.

Abdullahi contested in 2013 elections but lost narrowly to the incumbent Aden Mohamed Noor who has now withdrawn from the race after he was nominated as MP for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
