The first batch of Mandera Teachers college attend class on Monday, August 1. The college will admit regular students in September 2016.

The first teachers training college opened its doors Mandera County yesterday with a total of 45 holiday based students reporting for class.

More regular students will join the institution in September this year.

Opening of the college comes as a blessing to the border County whose education sector suffered immensely following series of deadly terror attacks in the past two years.

Efforts by the County administration including commissioning of this college and hiring of local trained and untrained teachers however helped save the situation.

This is the second training college in North Eastern region after Garissa Teachers Training College which was established in the year 1996.

Abdullahi Noor, one of the first students to join the Mandera TTC told NEP Journal that the opening of the college in Mandera will bridge the gap left by the mass exodus of non-local teachers in the wake of the increased terror attacks.

Noor urged students to make use of the facility in their doorstep  to play their part in boosting the education standards of the County.
