Twenty two students from Elwak, Kutulo, Wargadud, Shimbir Fatuma and other areas within Mandera South Constituency pursuing P1 teaching course at the Garissa Teachers College were today awarded with a one year scholarship.

Area MP Mohamed Huka said the move was aimed at averting future shortages of teachers in Mandera given the recent mass exodus of non-local teachers citing insecurity in the wake of increased terror attacks.

Elwak South CDF Chairman Adan Mohamed and the fund’s manager were at hand to present the sponsorship cheques to the institution.

Mohamed pledged support for students pursuing teaching to encourage more take up the profession.
