Four IEBC commissioners have walked out of meeting organised by the IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati’s, the four are said to have disagreed with Wafula Chebukati over the appointment of the new team to oversee the fresh presidential elections.
The bizarre incident happened on 6 September; the four termed the unveiling of the six-member project team on Tuesday evening as irregular and illegal.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati removed IEBC CEO Chiloba, Deputy CEO Betty Nyabuto and Director of Voter Registration Immaculate Kassait.
Among the newly appointed include, Head of Logistics: Ms. Nancy Kariuki Head of Training: Mr. Bernard Misati Moseti Head of Legal: Salome Oyugi Head of ICT: Mr. Albert Gogo under the direct supervision of the National Returning Officer.
According to IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, the appointment takes immediate effect and will last for a period of 3 months.
The Opposition NASA, which has been pushing for the dismissal of top electoral chiefs, including CEO Chiloba, dismissed Chebukati’s changes as inconsequential.
“Chebukati should not think people are fools. You appoint people to a project and don’t tell us the status of Chiloba and others who messed up the elections,” ODM Director of Elections Junet Mohamed said.
Meanwhile the jubilee party has also rejected naming the seven-member team under the supervision to manage the repeat poll. Jubilee Party’s secretary general Raphael Tuju said in a letter to Mr Chebukati: “After publication of the names of your election project team, we have received credible information that in the list are people known to be partisan.”
