Government plans to drill more boreholes in NEP

The government has pledge to drill and repair more boreholes in the northern Kenya in its effort to reduce the effect of the biting drought that the region is facing.

Part of the plan is to increase trucking of water as well as supplying and storing water for the use of the pastoral community.

The agreement was reached after a meeting between the cabinet Secretary of ministry of Water and Irrigation Eugene Wamalwa and legislators from the Northern region led by the majority leader Aden bare duale.

Majority leader Aden bare duale said they have deliberated the issue of drought mitigation with the concerned docket and discussed durable solution.

“Treasury has allocated resources in line with ministries to mitigate the effects of drought on people and livelihoods.” Duale said.

Aden Kenyan, Eldas Member of Parliament said cabinet Secretary of ministry of Water and Irrigation has assured the Northen leaders  of the government’s support to cushion the pastorals against the effects of the biting prolonged drought.

Meanwhile the governor of Garissa has flagged off eight tones of animal’s pellets and three water boozers as mitigation measures to aid the drought stricken people in the county.
