Garissa Governor, Nathif Jama has signed into law a Bill establishing the County Emergency Fund with a caution that the county was yet to get off the hook of perennial drought.
Nathif said that it was in recognition of this fear that the county initiated the Bill to address drought and other natural disasters in future.
“This is in recognition of the need to handle expeditiously and efficiently natural or
unexpected crisis in the county,” Nathif said.
He added that his administration had set aside Sh. 40 million for the emergency kitty and put additional measures on the ground to avert further suffering from natural disasters.
The governor was speaking in Garissa after signing the emergency fund bill and the county finance bill which spells out how the county will undertake its revenue collection and licensing policies.
