Football teams in Garissa County have a reason to smile after receiving awards for their success in the 2016 local league.
Governor Nathif Jama presided over the colorful award ceremony which was held at the Garissa primary school playgrounds on Sunday. Motown took home a cash prize of Kshs 300,000 and the champions’ trophy while second placed Ghetto FC were given a cash prize of Kshs 200,000. Third placed Al Hilaal FC took home Kshs 100,000.
Federation of Kenya Football Garissa branch Chairman Noordin Tube said up to 192 matches were played during the league window.
“The county Government stood for the costs of all the 192 matches including match officiating, markings and various other costs” said Noordin.
All the participating teams were given uniforms, balls and certificates of participation while the best goalkeeper, best player and the top scorer got various cash prizes.
Noordin thanked the County government for the positive gesture.
