Contractors in Garissa County have obtained police permit to hold peaceful demonstration in the town on Tuesday to demand payments on their contracts.
This follows Thursday’s meeting in the town where the group of aggrieved contractors gave the county administration a three day ultimatum to pay them or face peaceful demonstration ‘that will shut down county offices’.
Garissa County OCS Solomon Letoiya gave the disgruntled suppliers the go ahead to hold the processions on January 19, 2015 from 0900hrs to 1500hrs.
The demonstration is scheduled to start from Garissa primary school grounds all the way to the governor’s office located in the former provincial headquarters.
On Thursday, Ibrahim Jama, brother to Governor Nathif Jama stormed a press conference held by the contractors at a Garissa hotel in a bid to stop them from agitating for their rights.
Ibrahim later hurriedly left the scene after angry contractors went for his throat, but not before he caused some fracas.
The county administration has since distanced itself from his actions although reports indicate the administration compensated for a citizen TV camera he has reportedly smashed.
