Somalia’s Galmudug State President resigns citing health concerns

By NJ Correspondent:

Under-fire Galmudug State of Somalia’s President Abdikarim Hussein Guled has today resigned citing health reasons.

Gulled was previously sent home by the State’s parliament in a motion of no-confidence passed against him in January, a decision he has trashed and vowed to soldier on before his announcement.

Guled who sought treatment outside the country on several occasions was a member of the Damauljadid party of Somalia’s former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

Analysts believe the loss to his party may have partly contributed to his decision due to the lack of support he may receive from the new federal government.

Before losing the elections to Farmajo, Sheikh has called for a review of the decision by Galmudug State parliament citing the situation in which the country was in at the time of drought and electioneering.

Guled served as the Federal minister for Interior prior to his election as the President of Galmudug State.
