The Easleigh business community yesterday elected Haji Ibrahim Hussein as their new leader after the incumbent Haji Hassan Gulleid stepped aside on medical grounds.
“Given my poor health, I have requested to be relieved of my duties and the business community accepted my request” said Haji Gulleid.
In his acceptance speech, Haji Hussein thanked his predecessor and appealed to the members and Somalis at large to remain united in order to be successful in business.
He reminded them that they were genuine stakeholders and bona fide citizens of this country and were not in Kenya by any one’s invitation.
Haji Yassin Jama was elected his deputy in the event which was attended by members of the Eastleigh business community and the area M.P. Hon. Yussuf Hassan.
Haji Hussein is a former Chairman of the Teachers Service Commision of Kenya and brings a wealth of experience to the business community at a time when police operations and terror attacks have seen reduced business activity in Eastleigh.
His deputy Haji Yassin Jama also thanked the outgoing leader Haji Gulleid and appealed to the members to give them both material and intellectual support.
Kamakunji M.P. Hon. Yussuf Hassan thanked the outgoing leader for his selfless service to the Eastleigh business community and Somalis at large.
He reminded the elected officials and all the stakeholders that businesses in Eastleigh were going through tough times and that they should strive to ensure that losses were minimized.
