Newly election President of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has today officially taken over the office after days of working from a city hotel.
Outgoing President Hassan Sheikh Mohamed handed over the reins of power ahead of Farmajo’s inauguration on February 22.
Sheikh told reporters he was happy to hand over power to the newly elected president expressing optimism that Somalia will be a better place under his watch.
“I would like to thank all those who made this possible. No doubt we won’t be here had no not work towards building a stable Somalia. We should keep this mission alive to move our country to greater heights” said Sheikh.
Farmajo on his side thanked his predecessor and asked members of the public to accord his administration the necessary assistance especially in the areas of peace and development.
“My administration will ensure all stakeholders are brought on board to move this country forward, this is your government and I urge to participate in its activities by helping it deliver on its mandate” said Farmajo.
The newly elected leader thanked the International community as well as troop contributing countries.
He said Somalia will was grateful for their selfless service and expressed hope that the country’s armed forces will soon be fully on their feet to take over security of their country.
“Nothing is more precious than life, our brothers have sacrificed their lives to ensure we are safe from the unending attacks of those bent on destroying Somalia. We salute them and will one day give them a good sendoff after we fully constitute our armed forces” Said Farmajo.
Speaker Prof. Osman Jawari, parliamentarians and members of the outgoing administration graced the colorful event.
