Smoke billows from the scene of blast.

Explosions rocked Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Tuesday morning targeting African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) base near airport.

Somalia’s Police captain Mohamed Hussein told NEP Journal that a suicide car bomb was detonated close to AMISOM’s Halane base near the Airport.  He said that the targeted area is known as Green zone of Mogadishu which contains many offices including that of United Nation offices, several embassies and International NGOs.

Hussein said that the suicide bomber had targeted UN’s Mine Action Service office in the area killing 13 people.

Eye witness said a huge cloud of smoke was visible over the city skyline that shocked residents.

Al shabaab, Somali terror group who have been waging war battles with Somalia security forces and AMISOM forces have claimed responsibility and said they were on revenge mission on the recent attack on their bases in lower Juba.

Glass windows of buildings near the scene of blast came off but no casualties were reported.
