The County government of Garissa has unveiled measures aimed at cushioning area residents against adverse effects of the expected El-nino rains.
Speaking after launching the El-nino response coordination Centre on Friday, Governor Nathif Jama said that his administration will finance the exercise to the tune of 500 million shillings in order to mitigate the effects of the adverse rains.
Nathif added the funds will be used to procure emergency shelter equipment, drugs, food and non-food items as well as other facilities involved in the logistics.
The governor asked residents living in flood prone areas of the county to be extra vigilant and relocate to higher grounds.
He added drainage will be unclogged before start of the rains.
