The county government of Garissa has denied allegations on social media that staff at the County referral hospital absconded duty on Wednesday during Idd-ul-Fitr celebrations.

News doing rounds on social media on Thursday alleged the biggest health facility in Garissa went on ‘Idd mode’ and that no staff was on site to attend to patients.

In a statement sent to newsroom and signed by the County head of Communications Yussuf Korow, the department of health services dismissed the allegations as false and malicious ‘meant to tarnish the image of Garissa PGH and the County Government.’

Korow said the Garissa PGH was during the festive season manned by a capable team comprising of four clinical officers and ten nurses who were able to respond to any case.

“Since the Idd festivities kicked in on Tuesday, staff at the hospital have managed to deliver 18 babies, 7 of them via cesarean process and also handled over 94 cases of outpatient and 32 cases of inpatient and another 7 cases of patient referral from neighboring counties all this without a single loss of life” said Korow.

“This demonstrates the hospital is fully functional and work is progressing as required” he added.

Korow urged the public to disregard and ignore the allegations saying they were fueled by people with political ill-will.
