In a bid to reduce vector borne diseases, the county government of Wajir in collaboration with an NGO – Mentor Initiative today launched simultaneously in ten locations a pest control program
Lunching the project, Chief Officer in charge of Medical services Dr. Mohamed Abdirahman said that the project dubbed Indoors Residual Spraying (IRS) was expected to run for twelve days.
Dr. Abdirahman added that the IRS involves the application of long lasting chemical substances (insecticides) on the walls and ceilings of all residential houses. The insecticide will either kill or repel the mosquitoes that lands on the surface.
The County government trained 16 supervisors, 16 educators and 80 sprayers for the exercise and provided them with quality spraying equipment.
The function was attended by Mentor Initiatives’ coordinator Dr. Kamar, Wajir East Sub-County Public Health Officer Mr. Mohamed Abdille and County Public health in charge Noor Kato.
