Balambala MP. Hon. Abdikadir Omar Aden has taken issue with the ongoing operations by KDF along major roads leading to Garissa town.
Heavily armed KDF personnel have been carrying out searches on passengers and vehicles leaving and entering Garissa since August this year.
Terming the move as a violation of the constitution, Abdi K said that parliament did not give its nod to this deployment as required by law.
Hon. Abdi K becomes the second MP from Garissa to face the KDF security checks gone through on daily basis by thousands of travelers.
“My sincere sympathy to people of NEP who are suffering this clear violation. I promise to raise this matter and seek answers from the managers of our Security” he said in a post on his Facebook page.
Garissa County Women representative Hon. Shukran Gure first to raised the red flag after undergoing thorough security checks at the same military checkpoints.
“I am a victim of their harassment. On August 22nd, I was stopped at the Hola Junction security check. The military threw my personal belongs to the ground during the security checks,” she said in August.
The move to deploy KDF on roads in North Eastern and Coast regions came after the Government took a multi-agency approach to tackling terrorism following the Westgate attacks.
Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government spokesman Mwenda Njoka in August said that The National Security Advisory Committee and the National Security Council approved the deployment on August 25th, but the military involvement at the checkpoints started a few weeks prior.
Most travelers interviewed by Nepjournal on this matter complained of unnecessary delays and privacy concerns as even laptops are scrutinized.
