At least four people were killed after a vehicle they were travelling in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on Tuesday morning.
The incident happened in Algabay village, between Liboi and Kulan village of Garissa County.
The driver of the land cruiser who is a Miraa trader delivered heaps of miraa to the area before involved in the blast.
The victims were four people including two miraa transporters, a woman and a minor.
Three died on the spot while the fourth person passed on as they were rushed to nearby hospital.
North Eastern Regional Coordinator Mohamud Saleh said IED was meant to target a police vehicle that was escorting the civilian land cruiser.
“The attackers are suspected to have escaped to a nearby push as their foot print could show they were near there. They wanted to hit a police vehicle,” said Saleh
Saleh said he suspects the attackers are members of Al-Shabaab remnants operating terrorists’ cells in the area.
The suspected terror group enter the country from the Porous Kenya-Somalia border which is near about 17 Kilometers away.
Security agencies led by Kenya Defense forces are at the scene trying to establishing how the attackers made their way.
This comes less than a week after security officials escorting Kenyan Revenue authority land cruiser was attacked in a similar blast while travelling along Liboi-Dadaab road.
Six of the casualties including Police and KRA officials were victims and were airlifted to Nairobi for specialized treatment.
