Unknown gunmen earlier today shot dead a woman as she headed for her farm in Malkakuna settlement, near Yabicho location in Rhamu Town of Mandera County.

Reports indicate that police made several arrests in connection with the incident but the officers were later involved in a road accident on their way back to Rhamu in which 7 of them sustained injuries.

The motive of the attack is not known but the County government of Mandera attributed it to the issuance of identity cards in in the area.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, the county administration insinuated that one of the two clans involved in the recent tribal clashes in the county has carried out the attack ostensibly to stop the issuance of national identification cards in the area because their rivals had a larger concentration.
