Al-Shabaab militants have on Wednesday ambushed Ethiopian forces serving under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in Burdar village of Hiiran region.
Ethiopian forces and militants were said to have exchanged heavy weaponry including machine guns and RPGs.
Burdar is a remote village which is about 40 kilometers east of Beledweyne town, the capital of Hiiran region.
An official in the region who asked anonymity told Nep Journal that the residents are in fear as both sides exchanges machine guns, mortars, rocket-propelled grenades.
Residents reported that Ethiopian forces switched off the telecommunication service of Hormuud Company following the ambush.
Through Pro-Al-Shabaab media Andalus, the militants said they have killed two Ethiopian forces and destroyed a military vehicle.
The troops were travelling in main road linking Beledweyne and Buloburde towns during the ambush.
Ethiopian forces, AMISOM and Somali security forces have not given any comment on the incident so far.
