Members of the Ajuuraan community in Somaliland came out in large numbers on Thursday to elect a a community leader.
Omar Osman Hussein was elected leader of the community in the colorful ceremony held at a Hargeisa hotel.
Speaking after he was given the mantle, Hussein said the community came together after realizing the need to have a central point of coordination of all its affairs including relations with other communities.
He thanked the government of Somaliland for giving them the opportunity and freedom to chart their way forward and assured the administration of his community’s support.
Shukri Mohamed Hassan who spoke on behalf of the organizers said the community was known for its organization from the days of the Ajuuraan dynasty and stressed on the need to put in place community structures that will steer its agendas forward.
She said the Community will now have a central point of contact socially and politically.
