Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi who picked his running mate for the gubernatorial contest in the August 8, 2017 Elections just five days ago received a blow after clan elders of his running mate disown his endorsement.
“With utmost humility, I wish to announce to you all that after wide and thorough consultations with various stakeholders among the residents of the larger Wajir, I have picked Mwalimu Ahmed Abdikadir Nunow as my running mate for the August 8, 2017 Wajir County gubernatorial race”, posted the Governor on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
Ahmed Nunow who belongs to Ajuran clan.
Speaking in a press briefing on Sunday, Ajuran elders led by their chairman Hassan Shobay said they are not party to the Nunow’s endorsement.
“Nunow’s endorsement as the running for the incumbent governor Ahmed Abdullahi is a mastermind of few individuals who purport to be the family professionals but Nunow belongs to a family and it’s his clan to endorse which bigger than few interested parties,” said Shobay.
He said that the Ajuran clan never fronted any candidate for the seat.
Ahmed Abdikadir Nunow is 36-year-old, an educationist with Bachelor of Education Degree at Kenyatta University.
He served as an employee of Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC) for eleven years as a teacher.
This barely comes three weeks after another choice for his running mate Osman Gurie who was also from the Ajuran clan rejected his offer at a public event before he took a second thought to endorse Mwalimu Ahmed Nunow who similarly seems to reject the offer in respects to pressure mounting from his clan.
The governor seems to have sleepless nights on which candidate to settle after his choices turn to haunt him as some reject his offer while others are disowned by their clan.
