Stranded: Passengers traveling from Garissa had to cut short their journey.

Hundreds of Families spent the night in the cold after flash floods hit Modogashe town in Garissa County.

Heavy down pours in the town and neighboring areas in the past week caused massive flooding after Lagdera River locally known as Togweine which is a seasonal river burst its banks.

Local residents said property worth hundreds of thousands were also washed away by the floods.

Transport has been paralyzed in the area as the river cuts across the town which administratively falls in both Garissa and Isiolo Counties.

“In dry spells, Modogashe suffers due to lack of water and when it rains, water from the river not only causes havoc in this town but also goes to waste” said Ahmed Mohamed, a local resident.

Ahmed said calls by locals on the government to erect dams in the area to trap water for use during dry spells bore no fruits so far.
