Two guards and a student were killed after gunmen attacked Garissa University College in northeast Kenya on Thursday morning.

Officials at Garissa County referral hospital told Nepjournal that the casualties stands at 35 from the 5.30am attack. The figures could however rise.

Students and teachers are still trapped inside with heavy gunfire renting the air. Security forces have cordoned off the area and are surrounding the college.

Hospital administration say the institution has been overstretched and are appealing for blood donations.

Business in the town has came to a standstill.
