The Somali National Army (SNA) on Wednesday killed eleven al-Shabaab militants in Elwak town of Gedo region near the Kenyan border after an attack.

Confirming the incident, Commander of the Somali National forces, Gedo region Col. Abdirashid Barre Gurhan said the militants raided their camps but were later overpowered by his forces.

“Al-Shabaab militants attacked our base in the town, but they were destroyed in the battle. We killed 11 of the militants on the spot, two of our soldiers were injured during the fighting and we pushed them back,” Gurhan said.

Local residents confirmed seeing the gun-toting militants arrive in Pick-ups and attack the town from all sides before storming the SNA base.

The incident comes shortly after another in Dhobley where Kenyan forces killed 21 militants after an ambush.
